How To Make Custom Slipcovers For Wing Chairs

You can look as if you have purchased new furniture when you fit your wingback chairs with slipcovers for wing chairs. These covers for wing chairs will easily stretch your furniture budget. Wing back chairs can be tough to cover but if you shop around you can find slipcovers specially designed to fit. You will be amazed at the affordable chair slipcover prices you can discover. Another great option that will save you money and give you a perfect fit is to make custom slipcovers for your wing chairs. The best type of material for slipcovers is going to be of a heavy or medium weight because it is going to be the most durable. Also, this type of material will do a more complete job of covering rips, frays, and other damage that thinner material can't. To get started using slipcovers for wing chairs you will want to first measure them.
The first measurement you make is going to be from the floor to the top of the chair on the back side. Then you will want to remove the seat cushion, if it has one, and measure from the lowest point of the seat to the top of the back. With the cushion still off, measure the base of the seat to the floor. If you are wanting the legs of the chair to show then you will want to stop your measurement at the top of the legs. Then you will want to get the width measurements at various points including the back, front, sides and wings. If there is a removable cushion you will also need to get its measurements. Once you have all the measurements you can place the fabric on the chair and tuck it into the crevices.

So you do not have marks on your slipcovers for wing chairs, use a washable pen to mark the hem on the sides, back, and front. You will want to turn over the edges and use a machine to sew a hem. You can give your slipcover additional detail by putting a decorative trim on the bottom. Once you have this main slipcover in place you will want to secure it to the chair using pins that screw in and have a button top. They can be found at craft or fabric stores and any where you get upholstery supplies. To cover the wings you will want to cut four pieces of your fabric in the shape of the wings but be sure to make them a few inches larger than the actual wing. Sew two of the pieces together leaving the part that is to slip over the wing open and then fit them over the wings. Do the same for the chair arms but you will need six pieces of material to cover the top and sides. Tuck the material into any crevices you can or sew the raw edges to the main section of fabric.

The last things you will do to make slipcovers for wing chairs is to cover the seat cushion, if your chair has one. To do this you will want to trace the shape of the cushion on to a large piece of you material and cut two pieces to cover each side, giving a few extra inches for seams. Then you will want to cut strips to cover the sides of the cushion, again allowing room for seams. Start as the center of the back of the cushion to sew the top and bottom to the sides. You will want the sides to gather a bit on the corners. Be sure to leave the bottom of the back strip open so that you can fit your cushion into its cover. Sew the edges and put piping on the trim for added detail.
